See what a slipped date does to the finish

A critical-path programme in working days: move a date and every dependent task moves.

  • Critical path recomputed live
  • Links with lag and lead
  • Printed under your heading
The old way.

The frozen bar chart

  • Drawn for the tender

The bar chart is drawn to win the job, then forgotten.

  • A slip nobody traced

One task slips and nobody knows if the finish moved.

  • Software on one laptop

The programme waits for the one person who knows the software.

The new way.

Move one date and the chain follows

Each task carries a working-day duration and its links. Change a duration, link or pinned start and the schedule reworks itself, the critical path in red.

How it works.

  1. List the tasks

Name each, give its working-day duration and the task it follows.

  2. Link them

Type each link as a scheduler would and the bar follows.

  3. Baseline and print

Set a baseline, see slippage bar under bar, then print.

Questions, answered.

What is the red path?

It is the critical path: tasks with no float, where a lost day delays the finish.

Calendar days or working days?

Working days, so a five-day task starting on Thursday finishes the following Wednesday.

Where is the programme stored?

It stays in this browser; a printed PDF is the only copy that leaves.
